Off Road Bike Rack

If you’re like us, scouring the internet for a bike rack that will clear a rear tire carrier, is hardy enough to survive rugged trails, and won’t limit your departure angle - you probably haven’t found anything. We didn’t either. We tried a spare-tire bike rack in an attempt to keep ground clearance but our mountain bikes just looked like a jumbled mess, ready to fall off any minute. We actually borrowed our solution from a fellow 4Runner owner that we met at a local bike park - modified it to fit our needs - and it’s been a durable solution that’s proven itself on multiple trips.

Our solution is pretty simple: weld a trailer hitch receiver extender to a steel plate and mount it to your swing out. This is nothing earth-shattering but we’ve received so many comments about it, we felt the need to share! Pair the new receiver with a heavy-duty bike rack and your 2-wheeled ride can be easily carried on 4x4 trails. We upgraded to the 1UP USA Super-Duty Double Bike Rack to remove any play we had experienced before, and we couldn’t be happier.
